Pulsed Electro-Magnetic Field Therapy (PEMF)
Hero Medical Center now offers this cutting edge new therapy. Pulsed Electromagnetic Field Therapy (PEMF) is a non-invasive alternative to surgery like stem cell therapy, but it helps alleviate painful joints or arthritis in new ways. PEMF is an energy medicine.

What does that mean? PEMF uses a similar model to the earth's own magnetic field to send an electromagnetic pulse into the body. This new energy aids in improving circulation and stimulating cell metabolism.
The bonds created by eletromagnetism are already present in the body and that energy is exchanged between cells. For example, EEG tests measure cardiac waves and defibrillators are used to dose the heart with enough energy to restart it.
PEMF therapy introduces a harmless, low frequency pulse that recharges the cells in the body. This pulsed electromagnetic field increases cell functionality, consequently enhancing circulation, oxygenation, hydration and increases the bodies ability to absorb nutrients and remove harmful toxins.

Where did this come from? NASA if you believe it. As NASA has been observing astronauts living on the space station, they are in a unique position to observe the effects of space on the body. More precisely, the effects of not being on Earth. Along with other factors, they observed the reduced exposure to the Earth's magnetic field had adverse health consequences.
To rectify this problem they researched the positive effects of PEMF. One study, put out by the Johnson Space Center entitled “Pulsed Electromagnetic Fields – A Countermeasure for Bone Loss and Muscle Atrophy,” states the following in an article on NASA’s website:

Currently, there is a critical need to develop effective countermeasures for bone loss and muscleatrophy to enable future human space exploration to the Moon, Mars and beyond. Progressive muscle atrophy can lead to weakness, fatigue, the inability to perform efficiently assigned tasks, and compromised emergency egress operations. Bone loss causes increased risk of bone fracture and kidney stones, which can also negatively affect mission objectives and success. The purpose of these studies is to develop a pulsed electromagnetic field device for use as a noninvasive countermeasure to enhance bone retention, prevent or alleviate muscle atrophy, and augment natural healing/regeneration processes. This research represents a major contribution toward enabling humans to live and work safely in space, and is especially relevant to projected human space exploration. On Earth, this device could be useful in the treatment of various muscle diseases, age- and cancer-related muscle atrophy, osteoporosis, and other bone diseases. Extracorporeal Radial Shockwave Therapy is a series of high-energy percussions to the affected area. The shockwave is a physical sound wave “shock,” not an electric one.

This application to help astronauts can now be used to help reduce or reverse the effects of prolonged exposure to the Earth's gravity (i.e. time) or help with certain injuries. PEMF has been shown to stimulate cartilage regrowth and relieve painful arthritis.
